Spirit Snorkeling-Adventure awaits!

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

Picture this… Boarding a 34’ long Coral Island Power Catamaran to travel 3 miles from land to the 3rd largest reef in the world. You look off into the distance only to see pristine, crystal clear water. Where are you? Australia? The Indian Ocean? No… you are in the Florida Keys. Marathon, Florida is the home of Spirit Snorkeling which provides daily trips to Sombrero Reef and Pirates Cove, as well as sunset and celebration cruises. Sombrero Reef is like no other. Since the sea floor is in reach of the sun’s rays, the light penetrates the shallow waters and exposes the vibrant reef and colorful marine life. Often referred to as the “Rain forests of the Sea” and stretching over 30 acres in size, the reef boasts its vast sea fans, magnificent living coral and a plethora of coastal and aquatic scenes.

Spirit Snorkeling prides itself on safety first as well as friendliness, family fun, and cleanliness. When you climb aboard the 24’ wide Cat boat, you will receive your freshly cleaned and disinfected vest, mask, snorkel, fins and goggles! The Captain will brief everyone on the safety tips and then out to sea you will go to explore the beautiful Florida Keys waters. Your little ones have the option to “drive” the boat. But unbeknownst to them, the Captain will remain in control over the catamaran. When you arrive at the reef and dive into the water, you’ll be flabbergasted at the sights you see. Every resident in the reef has a role to play in the diverse ecosystem. From lush meadows that support a great deal of marine life to the small hills of the spur-and-grove reef, you will witness a profusion of mutton and yellow tail snapper, nurse sharks, eagle rays, lobster, sea turtles and Bermuda blue angelfish, just to name a few.

If you elect to experience the sunset cruise (which is highly recommended) complimentary champagne, crackers and sliced meat and cheese will be waiting for you. Then head out to the “hump” for the optimal spot on the water to view and admire the classic Florida Keys sunset. With the historic 7-mile bridge in your sights, it is impossible to snap a bad photo. Once the picturesque sunset fades onto the horizon, you will sail back to the island. The ride back is always a great time with first mates Jena and Kevin! From comparing beautiful and scenic shots to chatting about home, you may have left the dock with a few strangers, but by the end of the trip you will have made lifelong friends. It is time to visit paradise. Book with Spirit Snorkeling today 305.289.0614! Follow the adventures on Instagram @SpiritSnorkeling and give them a like on Facebook!
